2019 carpet trends

With the end of the year almost upon us we have been thinking ahead to the new year and all that it brings. Just as the end of the year is a time for reflection, so the new year is a time for exciting new ideas and trends and an opportunity to refresh our thinking and our homes. To get you started on how you can do this we thought we would share our ideas with you and how we see the new carpet trends for 2019 shaping up.

Moving away from wall-to-wall carpet

A fixture in the homes most of us grew up in, wall-to-wall carpet is not nearly as popular any more. We like our home design and we like to change things around and refresh our homes from time to time, so stand-alone carpets that can be changed as well are becoming increasingly popular. It also means that we can remove and store them over the summer as temperatures rise and allow us to keep our homes cool when it’s hot.

Entrances

We see in the new year in style, so why not treat the entryways into our homes in the same way? One of the biggest trends coming in is creating a welcoming space with carpet at the entrance to your home. It need not be a large carpet nor an expensive one, but it can create a statement. Whatever you choose, it will set the tone for the rest of the house and reflect your and your home’s personality. Many may go for a darker design to avoid frequent cleaning, but if you also invest in a good mat for the outside of your home to catch all the water, dirt, and mud that come in on our shoes then there’s nothing to stop you from picking a lighter colour too.

Colourful

Make a statement with colour! A developing trend is the use of multicoloured carpets and designs that bring a splash of colour and texture to a room. This one works well where your walls are a more neutral colour and you want to brighten things up without having to redecorate.

Jute

While colour is a trend, that doesn’t mean neutral tones are completely out. And to add a trendy twist jute is growing in popularity, and fast! An excellent choice if anyone in your home suffers from allergies, jute is a great alternative to the more commonly found silk and wool carpets that we usually use in our homes.

Lower pile heights

While carpets with a lower pile height are not new, their popularity is not waning. This is because they are a great alternative to those deep piles that we have become accustomed to, with a number of benefits too. Lower pile carpets are easier to clean and if you like to move furniture around every so often for a different look you won’t have to worry about dealing with marks where things stood before.

Larger carpets

Smaller rugs and runners are great for entrances and bedrooms, but for larger living rooms they may look a little out of place. That gap in the market is being filled with an increasing number of options for bigger carpets and there is also the option of custom sizing your carpet to best fit your space.
