If you are thinking of installing new flooring now that spring is here, then you might be struggling to make a firm decision. Should you go for carpeting that’s soft to the touch, or heavy-duty flooring that will serve you brilliantly for years?
The likelihood is that your home is already versatile enough to be able to accommodate both. A concrete, timber or tiled floor will bless your interiors with contemporary appeal, but you cannot knock the simplicity and warmth offered by carpeting.
Colour trends for spring 2016
When it comes choosing your carpeting, you might consider neutral shades to be safe, but a splash of colour can really make a difference. In areas of high traffic, such as stairs, landings and hallways, you will require a strong carpet. You should also go for durability, and darker shades.
People tend to be a little more adventurous when it comes to colours these days, and carpets with contrasting tones are becoming increasingly popular. Don’t be surprised to visit your carpet showroom and see carpets where diverse textures and colours are woven together.
If you do desire neutral colours, then think cool creams and warm greys. If you feel like being a little more adventurous, then plump for reds, blues, lilacs or plums.
Comfort trends for spring 2016
As your bedroom is not regarded as a high traffic area, you can afford to be a little more creative and indulgent when it comes to your comfort choices. How about a shag pile, a deeply-textured frieze or a plush velvet pile?
Popular styles now include twists that are dense, chunky and high, with oversized loops. Such styles also combine the traditional material of wool with all manner of other materials, such as linen, cotton, silk and even paper. This results in multi-layered carpets that are tactile and comforting.
If you’re in the natural flooring club, then think about installing a wool carpet, as this will feel softer under your feet and is extremely durable.
Texture trends for spring 2016
Despite modern manufacturing advances, most people plump for wool when it comes to carpeting, however there are several alternatives that are well worth considering. In living areas with a moderate amount of traffic, go for flooring that is both soft and durable. Think about chunky carpets that have a varied pile height, or that mix cut and loop piles. These give the appearance of a patterned carpet, but in a single colour.
One of the trends of 2015 that’s likely to continue throughout 2016 is the movement of art from the walls, to your floors. You can have your flooring designed with lush green botanical designs, or something a little more modern if you so desire.
Finally, if your budget is limited, then you should concentrate on synthetics. Fibres that are man-made are durable and are easy to maintain, and are more affordable than natural materials.
